MRI
What is MRI?
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a technique for taking pictures
of the body without using x-rays. The equipment used, known as a
scanner, generates very clear, high quality pictures of soft tissue
structures such as the brain, spinal cord, joints and internal organs.
These images, produced by combining the effects of magnetic fields
on the hydrogen within your body, together with a sophisticated
computer system, are then transferred onto film and carefully reviewed
by our Doctors.
Because of the strong magnetic field strength used, MRI is not
suitable for everyone. Click here for a list of
those persons not suitable.
You will complete a safety questionnaire with the Radiographer
prior to going into the scan room. The Radiographer will also fully
explain the procedure to you. All valuables can be locked away in
the patient cubicles. During the scan, you are in constant communication
with the staff and most procedures last between 20-40 minutes.
